Meet Your Instructor

David Mueller is the founder and lead instructor of Musi Co. Academy. He is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist and composer whose pedagogical lineage traces through seven generations of teacher-student transmission directly to Johann Sebastian Bach. This unbroken chain of musical knowledge, spanning over 250 years, informs every aspect of instruction at Musi Academy.

David holds a degree from the Mary Pappert School of Music at Duquesne University, where he studied in the Thomistic intellectual tradition which integrates rigorous analytical thinking with artistic expression. His training encompasses classical guitar performance, music composition, music theory, and pedagogy.

His teaching career spans private instruction, institutional music education, and ensemble direction. As Director of Strings at an elite private school, David built and led an orchestral strings program from the ground up. He has directed virtual music ensembles, managed group and individual instruction across multiple instruments, and developed the Musi Method curriculum which forms the backbone of all instruction at the Academy.

David performs professionally on classical guitar, electric guitar, mandolin, ukulele, violin, cello, piano, organ, upright bass, and electric bass across classical, jazz, and contemporary settings. His multi-instrumental fluency gives him an unusually broad perspective on music pedagogy: he understands the specific challenges and opportunities of each instrument family because he has navigated them personally, not just theoretically.

His compositional background brings a dimension to instruction pure performers cannot offer. Students benefit from an instructor who understands music not just as repertoire to reproduce but as structure to comprehend and create. Theory, ear training, and composition are not separate subjects at Musi Academy; they are integrated into every lesson because David's training makes this integration natural and constant.
